It’s way late notice, but I just found out that an interview I did with Mike McNamarra of CrossSignals Radio is going to be on Sirius Satellite tonight at 8:30PM CST. Channel 159. I don’t have Sirius, and I’m not sure if the free trial will cover that station, but if anyone’s got it, let us know how it turned out!

The other night after rehearsal Joby and Albert spent about an hour recording a song I just wrote called “How Far Gone.” You can hear it on their MySpace page by CLICKING HERE.
We performed it in Phoenix Tuesday night and it was very well received (no pity claps…) so I think it’ll end up as a fixture on the setlist, at least for a while. It’s a song of disappointment, healing, and forgiveness, and I hope it speaks half as loudly to you as it has to me since I finished it last week.
To all who came out last night at St. Gabriel’s, thanks a TON. We had a great time and are looking forward to seeing you again on Sunday. To all on their way to NCCYM in Las Vegas, we can’t wait to hang out! Everybody should try to come by the hotel lobby on Thursday at 12:30 and Ballroom B on Saturday at 1:15. Other than that we’ll be hanging at the GIA/Disciple Records booth and the Aftermass Records booth.
Peace
Ryan

We’re off to Phoenix and Las Vegas this afternoon! Hopefully the new site is up and running (NCCYM was my deadline) for everyone. Be sure to keep checking back, as the whole band will be posting fairly regularly here from now on!

Sometimes, when I’m feeling both brave and disgustingly dirty, I have to take a shower while Anna and I are at home alone. I shut the doors to anything potentially dangerous, give her a pile of books to read, and sit her outside the door of the bathroom. Normally, she sits there quietly reading her stories, occasionally singing a song when she feels inspired, and I semi-enjoy the shower with the door open.
Yesterday, Anna was feeling a little livelier than usual (and she’s an energetic kid), and decided that stillness was not her style while Daddy showered. I heard a loud *thud*, looked out the shower curtain, and asked her what she was doing. “Jumping.”
“Right, but why are you jumping there? You might slip on the wet tile and hurt your head.”
“I’m trying to reach the top of the door.”
Of course. Why wouldn’t I have guessed that my 2-foot tall daughter had her mind set on reaching the 7-foot doorway? “Don’t you think it’s a little too high? Why don’t you wait until I get out of the shower and I’ll help you touch it.”
Her response: “I can do it. I’m growing.”
Rewind to the day before, when I was informed that not one, but two performances we had scheduled 2 weeks from now were being canceled Now, I have just a BIT of an artistic tendency, which means that occasionally I go through a “WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING ALL THIS FOR?” phase. The answer, of course, is that it’s my vocation. It’s not that I couldn’t do anything else (Lord knows I’ve gone through my share of supplemental side jobs), it’s that I feel like writing songs and communicating the Gospel through music is the very best use of the talents that God has blessed me with and that I try to continue to build upon. I get discouraged sometimes when I hear a song on the radio that has poor structure or cheap rhymes, and I wonder why I haven’t achieved the success of some that don’t work as hard or even as well as I do. Sometimes it takes a 2-year-old to remind me, though, that the reason I\’m not “there” yet is that I’m still growing. It’s not that our band hasn’t been successful, just not quite as successful as I know we’re destined to be. So, like the life pundit that I call my daughter, we just have to keep on jumping.

THE END OF SUMMER
RJM as of 09/16/2006
The days are getting shorter and the night air’s coming colder
And the smell of fallen leaves afire burns inside my lungs
There’s a time when all the pasture begins to bathe in amber
And like everything in life and love, the year has got to fade
And the end of summer comes to take us all
The end of summer teaches us to fall
My friends all left my hometown, and left Kate and I to learn
That the quicker that you build a house, the more it wants to burn
There’s a candle on the table to remind us how to pray
When the light can’t hold up to the dark the spark remains the same
And the end of summer takes us by the hand
The end of summer teaches us to stand
Oh the days of open grace
Of fleeting innocence
Remembering just how simple life is
The days are getting shorter and the night air’s coming colder
And the season that we thought would last a year has come to fall
The chill that’s on the window will be here by tomorrow
And tomorrow will invite us to decide to understand
That the end of summer comes to turn to dust
The end of summer teaches us to love
The change of seasons is good for me, but I resist it to no end. I got all introspective tonight and came possibly the closest I’ve ever felt to baring it out in one sitting. Maybe I’ll play it at one of the acoustic shows this fall, since it’s not much a full-band rocker…
Anyway, to combat the artistic temperment inherent with the fall, here’s the Mix CD that will occupy the next month or so, while I try to hold on to what’s fleeting and like always, resist change until it’s right on top of me…

OK, folks! Thanks for hanging with us while we got this thing off the ground. There’s some great things happening in the land of RMB, and this will be the place to find out exactly what they are! The guys and I will try to post regularly on the new “band blog” here, and I’m sure we’ll still maintain our personal blogs for stuff that you guys could probably not care any less about (read: my Treo software addiction). Anyway, I’m off to see “Talledega Nights” with Matt, so enjoy the new site and keep on rockin’ the free world!
